History The Portuguese Association of Cerebral Paralysis (A.P.P.C) is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity without lucrative ends, with headquarters in Lisbon. It initiated its activity in 1960 and was pioneering in Portugal in the Whitewashing and Social Integration of people with Cerebral Paralysis in the scope of the education, social security, health, habitation, work, culture, recreation and sport. Currently, the A.P.P.C. counts on 13 Regional, situated Nuclei in Braga, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guimarães, Lisboa, Madeira, Porto, Setúbal, Vila Real, Viseu and Leiria. All these Nuclei keep a common philosophy, guided for a National Office that integrates Regional elements of all the Offices, being these, however, endowed with autonomy technique, administrative and financial.
The Regional Nucleus of Viseu was born of the necessity of if supporting children and young with Cerebral Paralysis, of the District of Viseu, who until then had of if dislocating to the Regional Nucleus of the center of the A.P.P.C. and other Institutions. In December of 1982 it initiated its activity in digs of the Regional Center of Social Security of Viseu with material improvised and yielded by other Institutions, in conditions of precarious space and light, where, however if it developed a valid work in the areas of: Whitewashing; Partner-Educative intervention; Partner-Pertaining to school integration. Early it was born the will of parents and technician to create a space that allowed to give reply, with the minimum of conditions to the 120 children and young with Cerebral Paralysis of this District.
Thus with the support of the House Saint
of the Mercy of Viseu of other official and private entities, of which
if salient the Regional Center of Social Security, was created the
Regional Nucleus of Viseu with headquarters in Quinta de Belém -
Vildemoinhos. Workmanships had become of restore and adaptation, of accessibility, the building that were yielded to the Nucleus, for the House Saint of the Mercy of Viseu, being this, endowed for the attendance with 60 children, in regimen of Half-boarding school and 200 in clinic. Parallel agreements in these areas with the Regional Center of Social Security of Viseu had been made. In 1990, the Regional Nucleus of Viseu acquired an attached building, where a Garden of Infancy functioned, as well as, the lands the spring of the building. In 1992, it celebrated an agreement of cooperation with the General Office of Basic and Secondary Education, creating the current School of Special Education. In 1997, it established the Protocol of Contribution with the NAACE (Nucleus of Attendance and Accessibility) of the City council of Viseu, according to which yields its cars and drivers for the service of transport of citizens with deficiency in Viseu. In September of 1999, they had initiated the activities in the new building destined to the Center of Occupational Activities. Currently the Regional Nucleus of Viseu gives to support the 330 people, having come to create answers diversified in function of its specific necessities.
